Batman Eyes
The human form, particularly the face, has been a lifelong long obsession. Since the late 1990′s I have examined the themes of emotion and identity through self representation, sound, poetry and spoken word. Representation of longing, loss, dislocation, desire, reverie, and joy and notions of female identity and sexuality have been central to my work. My image sequences are carefully set up installations using myself, my family and friends.
The White Series produced in 2009/2010 explores the theme of sexuality, transience and spirituality in a series of images linked together by the theme of the colour white and the female body and is inspired by a number of poems by Sylvia Plath.
I have worked with scientists from the University of Edinburgh project- Transformations: Life Portraits about ageing and I recently exhibited my work at alongside the drama, Dementia Diaries. I’m currently working on a video project Nine Thoughts: a riff on fragmentation and loss – a personal response to the impact of dementia on communication which includes found sound, music, poetry, still and moving image, and exploring the themes of memory, transience, identity and the environment.
